The supreme Self is the eternal reality. It is formless, changeless and imperishable. All objects with names and form are appearances projected on the substratum of the non dual Self. The changeless non dual Self experiences itself through the objective world of plurality and multiplicity through its interaction with multitudinous objects with name form and function. Every object of experience has a gross or subtle form. Everything that has a form is changeable. Everything that is changeable is perishable. Everything that is perishable is false. It is only an appearance in pure consciousness which is the infinite changeless substratum in which everything appears, exists, dissolves and disappears. Pure Consciousness is the non dual supreme reality. It is eternal infinite, all-pervading self-effulgent existence consciousness that projects, illumines and reveals every object of experience. It is one without a second. There is no second reality apart from it. There is no second object apart from it. There is no space where it is not. There is no time when it does not exist. It has no beginning, middle or end. It is beyond the limitations of time, space and object. Nothing exists outside of it. Nothing exists apart from it. Everything is pervaded by it. Everything is illumined and revealed by it. Everything appears in it, exists in it and then dissolves in it like the play of waves on the vast infinite ocean.

THE UNCHANGING SELF

 The root cause of all suffering is Avidya or ignorance of our real nature. It forms the foundation of the chain of cause and effect that results in bondage. Avidya leads to Aviveka or absence of discernment between the real and the unreal, the Self and the non self. Aviveka leads to ahamkara or ego consciousness, induced by false identification with the body-mind complex, which is erroneously perceived to be the real Self due to the absence of true knowledge of the eternal authentic Self. Ahamkara generates impurities in the mind such as raga/dvesha or likes and dislikes, attachments and aversions, desires, passions and vasanas. The reduction of desires is the route to happiness. Desire is the root cause of all suffering. It is only in the ephemeral moments of desirelessness that ensue after the fulfilment of a desire, that we truly experience contentment, serenity and bliss. When we pray to God, we should ask to be blessed with the spiritual bliss of desirelessness. This spiritual bliss is the highest thing to be desired from God. One can also train one's mind to attain this blissful state of desirelessness through sadhana, by converting desires into preferences. Preferences are harmless and non binding and do not lead to suffering. It is the non fulfilment of binding desires that is a constant source of suffering.
